Dosage/Direction for Use
Severe GERD 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Maintenance: 10 mg or 20 mg daily. Active peptic ulcer disease 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk (duodenal ulcer), 6-12 wk (gastric ulcer). Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 60 mg once daily. May be increased up to 120 mg daily in 2 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to rabeprazole, other benzimidazoles.
Special Precautions
Exclude gastric neoplasm prior treatment. Increased risk of developing infections eg, community-acquired pneumonia; GI infections eg, Salmonella, Campylobacter, & possibly Clostridium difficile. Hypomagnesemia. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, diarrhoea, skin rashes; pruritus, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, arthralgia, myalgia, urticaria, dry mouth.
Drug Interactions
Increased or decreased absorption at increased gastric pH values w/ digoxin or ketoconazole. Delayed absorption & decreased bioavailablity w/ sucralfate. Inhibits warfarin metabolism.
